Excursion / Transportation to Monemvasia (Peloponnese)

It is a small historic town in the eastern Peloponnese (built on limestone rock), in the province of Epidaurus Limiras, in the Prefecture of Laconia. It is better known than the medieval fortress, on the homonymous "Rock of Monemvasia", which is literally a small islet connected by a 400-meter-long bridge to today's coastal city on the Laconian coast.

Entering the castle, a small alley on your left will take you to the home of the poet Yannis Ritsu, outside of which there is his bust. The main road with the Byzantine cobblestone road leads to the Central Square with the old cannon and the Church of Christ the Ascended. At the highest point of the rock is dominated by the church of Hagia Sophia, the most impressive building of the upper city. The temple was built in the 12th century and is one of the most important temples of the Byzantine period in the Peloponnese.
